Seurat Joins Additive Manufacturing Coalition to Advocate for Supply Chain Resilience

This post is authored by CEO and Co-Founder of Seurat, James DeMuth

It’s time for manufacturing to find a new home. As we now know, having products produced in a faraway factory has failed to be the best economic and environmental approach.

Additive manufacturing (AM) has a promising future given its ability to drastically shorten lead times and prototypes can be built almost anywhere. But, is there a future where AM can help us control our economic destiny and lessen our national dependence on foreign adversaries? Recent legislation such as the CHIPS Act marks a nationwide effort to build dependable supply chains at home, and this could potentially be the impetus that AM has been waiting for to advance forward.

We need a collective group of innovators who understand there is a better way to manufacture to push the industry towards a cleaner, greener, and more efficient way of building. Seurat is proud to join the Additive Manufacturing (AM) Coalition and work alongside other leaders who are calling on the wider industry to reshore manufacturing to a carbon-neutral future.

Additive Manufacturing Coalition Panel Assembles Supply Chain Experts

There’s strength in numbers — and the movement to revolutionize manufacturing is no exception. The Additive Manufacturing Coalition is a national membership organization recognized as the national voice for additive manufacturing with decision-makers and stakeholders, including federal agencies and Congress.

On September 13, 2022, at 2:00pm EST, the AM Coalition will host a panel on “How AM Can Improve Supply Chain Resiliency” in partnership with the U.S. House Manufacturing Caucus. I am proud to represent Seurat and join the panel alongside Senator Gary Peters, Xerox General Manager Tali Rossman, and America Makes’ Ecosystem Director, Kimberly Gibson.

To listen to the panel, please RSVP here, and you will receive the Zoom link.

Our panel will focus on how 3D printing gives traditional factories a run for their money in every way. AM is finally able to compete with the price, speed, and quality of traditional manufacturing such that we can bring back jobs and innovation.

But it’s not just about building closer to home — it’s also about creating a carbon-neutral future. Outdated manufacturing processes, like casting, account for 20% of the manufacturing industry and emit 23% of total U.S. carbon emissions. AM can significantly shrink both of these numbers and advance the country towards our climate goals.

At Seurat, we have a roadmap that enables green transitions, starting with using 100% green energy to power our part-printing factories. Starting as soon as 2025, we see the possibility of co-locating with a renewable power grid to ensure that reliable, clean energy sources are manufacturing products for our customers. Our sustainability strategy is rooted in competitively displacing traditional methods which are highly dependent on fossil fuels. We have validated our carbon footprint reduction forecast according to ISO 14064 standards. Our ability to reduce carbon emissions improves as our technology becomes more productive.

Looking Ahead

We’re excited to join the national movement to call for the widespread adoption of AM. I look forward to joining more opportunities that bring AM to the forefront of supply chain conversations to build resilient supply chains and decarbonize manufacturing.
